โš–๏ธ The BMI Blind Spot

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple way to screen for weight categories, but it doesn't distinguish between fat, muscle, and bone. This is why a bodybuilder can technically be labeled as "obese" despite having very low body fat.

๐Ÿ” Why Body Fat % is the "Smarter" Metric

Your body fat percentage tells you exactly what portion of your weight is adipose tissue. This is a much better predictor of long-term health than just scale weight.

  • ๐Ÿƒ For Men: 10โ€“13% is "Athlete," 14โ€“17% is "Fit," 18โ€“24% is "Average." Over 25% is considered obese.
  • ๐Ÿ’ƒ For Women: 14โ€“20% is "Athlete," 21โ€“24% is "Fit," 25โ€“31% is "Average." Over 32% is considered obese.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How to Measure it at Home

While a DEXA scan is the gold standard, you can get a very good estimate using the "Navy Method." All you need is a flexible measuring tape and measurements of your neck, waist, and hips (for women).
